Fiber Chapter
The Fiber Chapter of SMART is made up of members who reprocess fiber and textile by-products into useful materials for a variety of industries, including automotive, home furnishings, construction, caskets, pet supplies and clothing. Our members source and sell materials on a global level and handle both natural and synthetic fibers.
Our members process fibers in a variety of ways and are involved in all steps of the manufacturing process. On the post-industrial side, our chapter members can help manufacturers keep their landfill costs low by removing post-industrial scraps or by-products from a manufacturer to be processed and returned either to the original manufacturing stream or sold to another manufacturer.
Post-consumer items, such as used clothing and household textiles, can be recycled by our members. These reprocessed clean fibers can be used in other applications. On both the post-consumer and post-industrial sides, fibers can be blended to meet rigorous manufacturing specifications and are suitable for yarn spinning, garneting, airlay, carding, and blowing operations.
The Fiber Chapter is a collaborative effort comprised of the leaders of the recycled fiber movement and is currently focused on the growing market awareness and acceptance of recycled fibers.
